Your dental CT scan, explained

Your dentist has referred you for a 3D scan, and it is normal to have questions. Here we explain what it is, how we take care of the dose and what will happen on the day of your appointment.

What is a 3D dental CT scan?

It is also called CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography). Unlike a traditional X-ray, which shows a flat image, this study creates a three-dimensional model of your teeth, jaw and nearby structures, so your dentist can see your case in more detail.

Is the radiation safe?

It is a fair question. The equipment we use (Carestream CS 8200 3D Advance) has a low-dose mode, and every scan aims for the lowest possible dose needed for your case.

Pediatric mode

Reduced dose for children.

Only the area needed

The field of view is limited to what your dentist needs to examine.

We check your position before the capture so the scan does not need to be repeated.

What will happen on the day of your scan?

  1. Arrival and check-in

We confirm your details and the requested study. We will ask you to remove earrings, glasses and any other metal objects.

  2. Positioning

You stand in front of the unit and we help you get into the right position.

  3. Image capture

The unit's arm rotates around your head without touching you; it takes only a few seconds.

  4. Results sent to your dentist

We send the images and the 3D volume directly to the dentist who referred you.
